Disney Crafts/ DIY Disneyland accessories!
Hey guys, I hope you're all good!
So you've already seen my previous post about the Disney ear-rings I've been making, inspired by looking for a pair on Etsy to wear on an upcoming trip to Disneyland, but I've also made myself a little Up! inspired brooch for my cardigan for the day and revamped a pair of flats to wear.
My brooch was inspired by one of my favourite Disney movies, Up!
I recently bought some polymer clay from Amazon, I usually buy Fimo but there was a cheaper option by a brand called Schoone. It still had good reviews so I thought meh, may as well give it a go. My first play with it was with this brooch. It was way less firm than Fimo, softer and stickier, so I think that could be a positive or a negative depending on the project. It wasn't too bad for this one as I fortunately started the piece on some baking paper so it didn't require moving again I was able to just play the paper on a baking tray to pop in the oven.
I started with the pink lower base of the house, added the green on the right hand side, then moved on the upper level blue, the roof, and the chimney. I finished the house with the final details like the windows and beams around the door (fiddly work!). I used the end of that little metal stick (tiny poking device, not sure what the actual name of it is) that came with the clay kit to carve in some lines for the wood look on the surface and scalloped tiles.
Next were the balloons. I rolled out a blue base for the balloons and affixed the 'strings'.
I got four of those 'tiny poking devices' in the kit so I used 3 for the balloon strings which I embedded in the blue clay base before starting on the balloons themselves. For the baloons simply rolled lots of tiny slightly flattened balls to place on top in the colours used in the film. I rolled a bit of clay and slightly squished/flattened it around the other end of the metal 'strings' to have something to glue to the back of the house.
I baked these two parts in the oven and glazed them once cooled. I had some trouble keeping the small metal rods attached to the house but a bit of felt and more glue seems to have done the trick. If I'd thought on I probably would baked them in to the clay base of the house itself before building it up on top but when you don't know exactly what position you want them in until it's all made up it's kinda difficult. Hey ho, this seems to have worked anyway.
Another thing I've been thinking about is what shoes to wear for Disneyland, sooo that lead me to wondering if I could add some Disney magic to something I already had...
Inspiration
Inspired by Irregular Choice (but without the £135 price tag!) and a little Minnie backpack I recently bought (Primark), I wanted to upcycle a cheap pair of pumps I already owned into something Disney-ified!
The revamp!
First thing to do was get rid of the red stripes. It would have been easier to just get some plain white pumps but I didn't want to buy new shoes for this project but just revamp some I already had.
So I painted a white base on them and added some black polka dots with my Posca pens.
I ordered a couple of iron on patches from eBay of Mickey and Minnie to apply on the toes.
I added some detailing with my black posca pen, going around the outline of the patches in black and adding a scallop pattern around the inner edging. I also added a bit of sparkle to Minnie's bow with some rhinestones and glue.
Et voila!
The finished product. Pretty cute huh?
