Remote Portrait Sessions / Virtual Shoots

I don't know if every reader of this blog will know, but I'm a photographer. Weddings primarily.

So, as you can imagine, my career has been on hold for the best part of 12 months due to the covid pandemic (had my first injection recently by the way, I was so nervous).

I've had mixed feelings on it as I've been lucky in that I was entitled to the government self-employment income support grants, and it worked out well for me.  So I've had money coming in, and not had to actually be out there working.  Although I enjoy my work, there wouldn't really be any other opportunity for me to be gifted a full year off while still getting paid so I looked at it quite positively and tried to appreciate it for those reasons.

In the first lockdown a few photographer friends had started offering remote portrait shoots via facetime.  I modelled for one friend's portfolio for such sessions, it was fun! But the thought of being behind the camera/phone actually didn't appeal with this one.  I was a little intrigued I guess but also kinda thought 'nah'.  Thought I'd find it too weird/awkward.

But in this latest lockdown I found myself modelling for a friend again, this time on an app designed specifically for virtually shoots, and it intrigued me further! Seemed easier to use and I fancied giving it a go.

So, I reached out to some friends I thought would make cool portrait subjects and shot an initial few sessions for free to use the images to advertise these shoots as paid sessions, and it's gone well! I only started this month and I've shot over 20 remote portrait sessions so far.  From portraits with pooches, business headshots, promo portraits for performers, maternity/bump shoots, and family sessions, it's been varied and, actually, fun!  I've enjoyed it more than I thought I would!

I'm currently charging £45.00 for a shoot session and all you need is your phone and some natural light!

Here are some examples from past sessions, all shot via my clients' phone! To book get in touch! You can find me on Instagram at @beckyryanphoto and on facebook www.facebook.com/beckyryanphotography
