Travel Diaries / USA Roadtrip

At the end of last year I got to shoot a wedding in Las Vegas, it was amazing! It also meant we got to take a rather awesome roadtrip from LA to Vegas, to Yosemite, to San Francisco!

San Francisco was probably our favourite stop, most 'our kinda place'. Getting to celebrate Hallowe'en while over there was amazing! If you ever find yourself in San Francisco for Hallowe'en be sure to check out Belvedere Street, they go all out! We went for Poison Ivy and Robin as our costumes and I'd spent ages putting mine together. My burlesque history definitely helped inspire the costume, it's a bit Ivy-meets-showgirl with those rhinestones, I was really proud of how it turned out!

The tour of Alcatraz was one of our highlights, definitely do that if you're over there.
Other highlights of our trip were the stunning sights of Yosemite, checking out the colourful street art in Vegas, and doing a Friends themed Warner Bros studio tour.

Oh we also made a little stop in a cute town called Morro Bay that just so happened to be having a vintage car show the morning we were there which was a bit awesome.

I can't quite decide whether I hate having to choose what clothes to take on holiday or if I love it! It's a bit of a time consuming task but I'm someone that enjoys planning what colours would go well with what places!
For example in Vegas I got to wear one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe, a turquoise wiggle dress by Pin Up Girl Clothing. It's colourfulness worked so well with the bright and fabulous street art around the centre.
I picked up a cute summery tie strap mustard dress with a pineapple print shortly before our trip in Sainsbury's that I wore for a trip up to the Griffith Observatory and the drive on to Vegas.
I'd been waiting to wear my custom cowgirl cactus print two piece in the Nevada desert since I bought it months earlier, and my Erstwilder wild west gun necklace worked great for that outfit.
For our trip to Warner Bros we were doing a tour of the Friends set and got to visit the original fountain from the title sequence! It had just moved across to the lot for the first time to be visit-able by the public so it was really cool to be amongst the first few to get photos with it there. We went for black and white outfits to be fitting with the cast in those opening titles! Plus I love that Minnie blouse anyway so I'm always happy for an excuse to wear it.

Anyway, here are some snaps from the trip!

  1. I remember when I first saw the pictures from this trip I really was blown away by how Exquisite your style is. I used to have to go to Vegas twice a year for work and I always loved anything that was a remnant of the old Rat Pack Las Vegas even though there's so little of it now. Funny I remember sometime ago when I had watched the old Stardust get demolished we were walking back down the strip talking about how sad it was that Vegas didn't seem to have any appreciation for its own history. Like a giant theme park it thirsts after newness to get people to come back. We looked at the garish gold phallus of a tower Trump built next to the Wynn (he and steve were rivals) I had this cold dread that the same thing would happen to New York. Many tall glass Towers later I still find myself magnetically drawn to the places with naugahyde seats and weathered cocktail waitresses. Give me the Stained glass in the Tropicana over anything new and shiny.
